Vibrant outdoor display of traditional Moroccan spices and dried botanicals at a market in Marrakech. The foreground features a large mound of bright pink dried roses, followed by baskets of turmeric roots, dark carob pods, and perfectly sculpted cones of colorful ground spices like cumin and paprika in the background.

Morocco is a country of intense contrast and geographic sweep. It moves from the towering minaret of the Great Mosque in Casablanca and the windswept coastal energy of Tangier to the mesmerizing, blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen. It’s a land that shifts between the pungent tanneries of Fes, the vibrant, chaotic energy of Marrakech, and the profound, shifting silence of the Sahara.

Beyond the vibrant colors of the souqs and the iconic landscapes, the heart of the country is defined by a tradition of hospitality that feels as ancient as the land itself. It’s a place where heritage is found in the expansive sound of the call to prayer and the steam rising from a neighborhood hammam. Here, the grueling heat of a basement furnace exists alongside the melodic grace of Malhun poetry, and the rhythmic “Moroccan Blues” of Gnawa music keep ancestral spirit alive within the fabric of everyday life.

This ongoing collection reflects my journey into the soul of Morocco: the seen and unseen, the faces, and even the fire.
